Outdoor Activities for the Crawling Baby

What can you do outside with a crawling baby? Here is a great list of options that don't involve muddy hands and knees. It's been a depressingly long and cold winter and summer has become just a vague memory. You wonder if the snow will ever melt. Then out of no where the sun begins to show it's beautiful face and everything begins to thaw right before your eyes. You watch the thermostat slowly creep up and rejoice for warmer weather. As quickly as you can you bundle up your little one, put on some rain boots, and rush out the door to join the celebration of spring.

Once outside, you realize one big problem: your baby can't walk. You look down at your boots which have sunken half an inch into the squishy wet ground and think there is no way I'm making him crawl around in this mess. But, what is there to do on a warm spring day with a crawling baby?

Play in the Car

Both productive and fun! If you think about it, the car is a really cool jungle gym with all kinds of buttons to push and seats to climb on, and they never get to explore because they are always buckled up. Of course, I would never leave a kid to play in the car on their own with the doors closed or the key in, but with very close supervision, I think it's ok.

I'm so glad to have this list to fall back on when I find myself standing in our yard with my baby on my hip wondering what to do with him. The outdoors are a wonderful place for a child to learn and grow and I believe it is extremely important that we as parents facilitate that in as many ways possible, especially in today's tech driven world. God created a beautiful world for us to enjoy, why not find ways for our babies to enjoy it also?
